About Our School

Our Beliefs

Effective Developmentally Appropriate Educating

Formative and engaging environment that begins your child’s journey into structured learning. We utilize Classical Education material which will set a firm foundation for your child’s appreciation of God’s good and beautiful creation.

Classrooms are arranged to promote exploration as children are encouraged to expand their understanding, developing appropriate skills through knowledge and truth, with the ultimate goal of forming a thoughtful and whole child.

Low student-teacher ratios help ensure your child is progressing academically.

Children are introduced to Language Arts (including phonics), Mathematics, Science, and Creative Arts, each according to their own developmental level.

Our educational approach results in children becoming self-directed, secure, and  capable.

Teachers provide positive guidance while individually assisting children in their overall learning process and social development.

They value each child as unique and special in the eyes of God, caring for all of  “His” children in a loving and professional manner.

Our classrooms are mixed-age (2 1⁄2 to 5yrs old). This provides opportunities for building social and leadership skills.

Character qualities such as kindness, cooperation, empathy, and problem solving are intentionally encouraged.

Extension & Worship Activities

Art, music, singing and active physical play are incorporated into daily activities.

A weekly chapel and simple classroom age-appropriate Bible lessons are included as a regular part of our school program.

For full-day 4 & 5 year-olds, an Enrichment Class is offered in the afternoon, where students study the continents. Activities involve study of the culture including music, drama, art, and more. For those full-day children under 4 years old, or that still need to rest, a quiet cozy environment is provided, supervised by our afternoon staff.

Children graduate from our preschool program well-prepared academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually as they move on to Kindergarten.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member of your church or a particular church to send my child to school there?

No, we have families from many different faith backgrounds. In Preschool, we share the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ in a simple manner that young children can understand. Our Elementary school continues a deeper level of religious instruction from a Lutheran perspective. To learn more details about what Lutherans believe please visit the Our Beliefs section.

Is your pre-kindergarten program full day or half day?

We offer a full day preschool program or a half day preschool program. It is your choice according to your family and child’s needs. The morning class time is devoted to Montessori method classroom instruction. If your child remains after lunchtime, they have the choice of resting or attending our Enrichment class (depending on their age and developmental level).

What are the class sizes?

Our classes are typically a maximum of 16 – 17 students with two teachers. During class time, we maintain an average of 8:1 student teacher ratio.

Are your teachers well-trained and educated in Child Development?

All teachers have completed the required Early Childhood Education coursework and are well-experienced. Some hold Associates or Bachelor degrees as well. Additionally, they are all CPR and First Aide certified, with full background checks, as required by law.

Does your school offer a hot lunch program and/or snacks?

Yes. Our lunch program is serviced through Ramona Family Naturals Market, by advance monthly purchase. Additionally, for preschoolers, a nutritious snack is also provided (free of charge) in the morning for every student and in the afternoon for those who remain after 3:30 in Extended Care.

Does curriculum prepare the children for Kindergarten?

Yes. And in most cases it exceeds the requirements, depending on the length of time your child is enrolled, and their individual developmental level. Since the Montessori Method of our instruction is completely individualized, your child progresses at their own pace and may even advance into Kindergarten level work during their preschool experience.

Do your students wear uniforms?

Although our Elementary students do wear uniforms, for Preschoolers they are not required. We do provide each student with a school t-shirt to wear on Wednesday chapel days and on field trips to foster a sense of school unity.

What are the pre-kindergarten hours?

  • Pre-Kindergarten is in session Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 12:30pm (for half day students) and 8:30 am to 3:00pm (for full day students).
  • Drop-of begins at 8:15am (unless you are utilizing our Extended Care program, from 7am).
  • Pick-up is between 3:00 pm-3:15 pm (unless you are utilizing our Extended Care program, which is available until 5:00)

Do you have before and after school care?

Yes. Our “Extended Care” program is offered before school from 7:00 am-8:30 am. Our after school program runs from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm. There are various pricing structures from hourly to prepaid flat fees, which are explained on our Tuition Info page.

“Ramona Lutheran Church and School is a fabulous place where Jesus is the main focus. Both of my children went to that school and have loved the education! As parents we have really enjoyed the experience!”

Statement of Faith

RLCS accepts and acknowledges all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible as the inspired, revealed, and inerrant Word of God, and accepts and acknowledges all the Symbolical Books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as a true and sound exposition of Christian Doctrine taken from and in full agreement with the Holy Scriptures.

RLCS acknowledges, accepts and believes that all who have been brought to faith in Jesus Christ are commissioned by Him to preserve and extend the kingdom of God. This is done by proclaiming to all, in the most effective means possible, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the Work of the Holy Spirit, this proclamation changes hearts and lives and brings victory and comfort to individuals who are declared totally and unconditionally righteous for Christ’s sake.

RLCS acknowledges, accepts, and believes that Holy Scripture gives guidance for our interrelationships and direction for our teaching.  The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of RLCS’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Church Pastor (and School Board) is RLCS’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

We seek to do God’s will in all our teaching and learning as we profess our belief and acceptance of the words of Christ. We strive to follow His admonition to “love one another” and encourage our students to practice this as well.

What We Believe

We believe that we should love our Lord with all our being. Matthew 22:37

We believe we should love our neighbors. Matthew 22:39,

We believe in the great commission that we are to bring the Good News of our risen Savior to all we meet. Matthew 28:19, 20

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Genesis 1:26-27

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.  Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4.  We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and woman.

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of RLCS. Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.

The Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs.

Finally, as we seek to do God’s will in all our teaching and learning, we profess our belief and acceptance of the words of Christ in Revelation 2:10, which state, ”Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life,” which is life in heaven with Jesus for all eternity. This is most certainly true!
